If I don't brake a rod while fishing, I aint fishing lol. As for drag, you need to be able to gently pull your line and the drag releases line. Had a few reels explode, but never a rod explode. Even in my kayak, I have a net so Im not sling shooting the fish into the yak. Learning how to tie a knot will help you not loose fish by grabbing the line. Im going to out and try to brake my rod tomoorow.

I went out to a creek near my house , and fished with your double jig rig (with a weighted float above it) in an area where the bottom was full of debris and I caught three new species for me (a flier, a yellow bullhead, and a golden shiner), as well as a couple bluegill using both karma colored donkey tail jr.s ! Made for a fun morning 🤔😅!

I really wish paddle board fishing, and sit on fishing kayaks were a thing when I was younger. Even though they are here now, my window for doing fun things like this closed a while ago. I've been fighting kidney disease since my early 30's, and now I'm on dialysis for the second time in my life. Thank you again for all the great videos, Ethan! I'm living vicariously through you!

Before I got into panfishing my ultralights were all for trout. It was Jordan Knigge at Addicted Fishing (on youtube) that really promoted the Okuma gear. I started out with an Okuma Celilo 6'6" ultralight and a Ceymar C-20. I believe the 500 and 100 reels are the CBF models. I haven't tried those yet. I have become quite accustomed to the Daiwa and Shimano reels but what I will say is that I think the Okumas are more robust. The reels I'm using now are like a Ferrari. The Ceymar reels are like a John Deere. One is more fun but the other is more likely to still be operating after 20 years.

You need to try trolling with that, haha

Also... If you are married with four daughters and it's easier to sit down to pee, work trips are AWESOME!

That's crazy! Had no idea such a thing existed. Cool idea. I rigged an electric trolling motor up to my inflatable kayak and this seems like a much better package. I worry about the sound tho and whether that will scare the fish. Looking forward to more expereinces

If you don't want to use braid is it better to use low diameter monofilament or fluorocarbon line? I know that monofilament can be quite stretchy, so would it better to use a low diameter fluorocarbon all the way through?

I learned the value of UL/pack-rods on motorcycle trips. They fit in saddlebags well, and can be ready to fish in minutes. I keep a UL packrod in my car for spur of the moment tries at unfamiliar water. Ultralight gear makes the little guys and panfish fun!

Which length is your rod

To anyone else here who is right handed and learnt to manage your rod with the right hand and reel with the left, don't you find it super weird when you see people changing hand after casting? Everytime I see Ethan switching hand, despite the fact he catches more fish in a day than I catch in a year, I am all "NooooOOOOOOO!!!! YOU'RE DOING IT WROOOONG!!!!" Also it seems to me a lot of people in the US are doing it, aren't they?

I have the 8 foot Elixir rated 2#-8# . . . it's pretty unique in that it has a telesciping section towards the butt, which makes for easier / safer transporting. Love that rod.
